| Bahrain, a group of 33 islands, with an area of 707 square kilometers, is situated in the Arabian Gulf, off the east coast of Saudi Arabia. The local time is GMT + 3 hours. The state takes its name from the largest island Bahrain, which is 586.5 square kilometers. It is linked by causeways to Muharraq (international airport) and Sitra (industrial area and tank-farm). There are numerous other tiny islands, but they are mainly uninhabited and are best known for the variety of migrating birds which pass through in spring and autumn. |

Arabic is the official language, although English is widely understood and it's used by most businesses. Islam is the religion of Bahrain and is practiced by a large majority. Places of worship of other faiths exist on the island. The climate is hot in summer and mild in winter. From November to April is very pleasant, with temperatures from 15 to 24 degrees centigrade.

Leisure Bahrain boasts of a multitude of indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, mostly available through clubs, resorts and hotels. Bahrain also has an 18-hole championship standard golf course. The country has a number of cinemas showing a wide range of international films and holds regular theatrical productions, musical concerts by international artists. Bahrain also has a vibrant night life.
Residential Premises Manama is the capital city of Bahrain. Manama generally has apartments and villas consisting of one to five bedrooms more than houses and typically has access to sports facilities, satellite and cable television. Houses are also available in town but given the well connected highway and road system the longest commuting time to Manama takes about 30 minutes.
Healthcare Full medical healthcare is available with private, limited practice and state systems. Kingdom medical services are largely free and the Limited Private Practice offers a range of choice with the established system at relatively low cost.
Schooling Both public and private schooling is available. Denominational schools exist and private sector education is available at English, Japanese, French, Indian and other international schools as well as a number of quality private Bahraini Schools. Preschools abound in Bahrain and offer English language education for infants. | |
